Choosing the Right Program

Picking the right program for your child can be overwhelming sometimes, especially when it comes to science. Having homeschooled my three children for over 20 years, here are three things to keep in mind before choosing any program:

  1. You can’t mess this up. Your child will learn no matter which program, book, level, or platform you choose.
  2. You may not find the perfect fit, so look for something that is good enough. There is no perfect program for your child. Some programs and learning styles may work better than others, but there will always be something that doesn’t quite fit. Figure out what “essentials” you need to have and then choose a program that best meets those needs.
  3. Learning occurs on that fine line between boredom and frustration. This means that at times your child may be bored and at other times they may be frustrated. Both are OK. You want to pick a program that is challenging enough without being boring and know that your kids will waver back and forth across the boredom/frustration line for most of their life. Your job is simply to guide them; encourage new, creative ideas when they are bored and help them push through when they are frustrated.

If you like our program but can’t decide between Focus On or Building Blocks or if you don’t know where to start, see our assessment chart. We’ll do our best to start you off with the right program for your child.

If you are still not sure, just jump in. We have a 30-day return policy, and if you just feel the program won’t work for your child, you can return it or exchange it. Just make sure the books are in excellent condition and haven’t been written in and that you package them well when you ship them back to us.

If you want some individual help, just give us a call or drop us a note. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Be patient with us – we are a team of homeschool moms, moms, wives, writers, artists, and dedicated pet owners. We get busy but will do our best to respond to your requests in a timely manner.
